Things you should NEVER pack

Yes, I know there are exceptions to every rule, but this list is for general travel, so you don't take too much or things that put you at risk.

1. More than 1 pair of jeans

Denim is heavy and bulky, and it takes forever to dry! Unless you have a MAJOR incident, jeans can go days without being washed because they're heavy and strong. Bring other lightweight bottoms to round out your wardrobe that are made of cotton, linen or performance fabrics instead of multiple pairs of jeans.

2. Extra Toiletries

Simplify your routine and don't bring a full container plus a partially filled one. Save the partially filled one for an overnight trip or just use it up at home. You can also purchase refillable containers and use them instead. Remember most hotels have toiletry packs they can give you should you run out of something.

3. Too many shoes

Walking tours and high heels don't mix, running shoes will just stink up your luggage. Unless you have a specific event or a plan to wear the shoes, don't bring them. Pick a supportive, casual shoe that will work with your most fancy outfit and sneakers that work for everything else.

4. Expensive accessories

We all like to look our best, but bringing designer purses, expensive jewelry, several camera lenses or extra electronics make you a target for pickpockets. Find a great classic nondescript bag, costume jewelry and use your tablet OR laptop rather than both so the irreplaceable things will still be in your ownership when you get home.

5. Anything you're bringing "just in case"

If you aren't one to exercise at home, don't bring workout gear. If you will only use an item once, find a solution from what you're already packing. Leave extra hairstyling tools at home! Pick a style and stick with it for the trip because those additional tools are bulky. The only exceptions are a raincoat and one warming layer.
